Summer's Tail
(guest appearance by James Yorkston on too many instruments to list)

We were heading south following the thrill of summer
With the gathering clouds I knew I couldn't save you
We were heading south leaving a trail of sorrow
When the wind blew in and did a little dance on the table

We were wrong, yeah we were wrong

With the sun in our eyes there was really no telling the time
By the time it was gone we had stayed there quite a while

I remember it well we were chasing the tail of summer
When the cold sailed in and brought along a friend in a trenchcoat
She said you can't go on you see the moment has gone
I turned to her and said what took you so long

We were young, yeah we were young

And with the sun in our eyes there was really no telling the time
By the time it was gone we had stayed there quite a while
